TheEARILabcontinuously examinescommunity resilienceinthefaceofclimatechange; conflict;healthandinnovationculture developmentinthe region.Inthesame regard, the EA RILabalsorecognizestheimportanceofstartupsandlocalecosystemsaskey enginestogrow innovationandspurentrepreneurshipinTanzaniaandAfricaasawhole.However,Startupsin themselvesare oflittlevalue,ifthelocalmasses/usersoftheinnovationsandtechnologiesbeing createdarenotinvolvedintheinnovationprocess.Withastrong beliefof“takingtheuniversity tothecommunity”,RANwill,inthe3days,harnesstheingenuity andpassionofuniversity faculty,students,localentrepreneursandcommunity representativestodeliveragreatlearning experienceonhowtoidentify greatideas/innovations,growanddiffusethemintotheaffected societies. Asinnovationentry points,thebootcampwilldwellonvariousscopesofresiliencethatimpact thevulnerability,mitigationandadaptivecapacity ofcommunitiesfaced by thevarious challengesidentified.These include;Wealthcreation,Health,Agriculture,Infrastructure, Governance, Human Capital development, Social Networks, Environment and Psychosocial support. Theoutputs of thebootcamp will include;

  • Theories of Change (TOCs) , M& E plans for Youth Spark Innovation Grantees under MUHAS
  • Howto Systematicallyidentifyand understand local problems/ needs
  • Howtocreateinterventionstrategies/innovationsusingtechniqueslikeuser-centered design and creative communityco-creation.
  • Establishanetworkofstudentinnovatorsready toworkwithcommunity representatives, local entrepreneurs andmentors to tackle theloomingchallenges.
  • Establish  at  least  one  collaborative  partnership  with  a  local  innovation  hub  as  an incubation and mentorsupport partnerforthe innovations sproutingout of theuniversity.
  • Strengthentherapportbetweenlocalcommunitiesandtheuniversityinnovatorsthrough engagementactivities likeneeds findingandcreative capacitybuilding(CCB).

The BootCamp will entail interactive activities, workshops, collaborative learning and hands-on exercises, panel discussions, brainstorming sessions, prototyping activities so as to engage participants and ignite their capabilities to innovate.
