In the month of November 2022, guided by the theme: “Rebuilding the Health Sector with Innovation and Creativity”, Uganda’s Ministry of Health together with her partners recognized 29 most outstanding health workers and facilities for their contribution to health service delivery in the country. The Heroes in Health Awards were in the categories of lifetime achievement, student innovation of the year, pharmacist of the year, public health facility of the year and mental health champion of the year among others.
Prof. William Bazeyo received the lifetime achievement award. He has worked for over 28 years to improve healthcare systems and wellbeing of Ugandans through providing leadership to implement various research and innovation projects and programs such as Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN), ResilientAfrica Network (RAN), Centre for Tobacco Control among others. To implement the above initiatives, he has worked in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development, World Health Organization, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to mention but a few.
