On Friday August 9th 2019 we hosted the RAN Innovation Fireplace under the theme “Placing the spotlight on the User through Customer centric models”.
The Innovation Fireplace event has been designed to provide a platform to engage the ecosystem of innovators and entrepreneurs so as learn and discuss critical topics that are pertinent to their ventures. This edition was moderated by the NTV’s news anchor Mr Walter Mwesigye, it provided a great opportunity for attendees to connect, share and listen from Customer experience leaders and Managers of top brands representing the private and public sector.
We hosted 3 Panelists who included; Mr Timothy Mugume the Country Manager Jumia Food Uganda. He is a tech enthusiast and passionate individual with vast experience in Business Management. Jumia is becoming the number one online retailer in Africa and was established in 2012 to be the one-stop shop for retail in Africa. It is an e-commerce platform for electronics, fashion, food etc. The platform consists of a marketplace, which connects sellers with consumers; a logistics service, which enables the shipment and delivery of packages from sellers to consumers; and a payment service, which facilitates transactions among participants.
Ms Pamela Abonyo who works as the Head Corporate Communications at NIC Holdings; she has attained the status of a Chartered Marketer and is the Board Chairperson of the Uganda Marketer’s society. National Insurance Corporation (now NIC Holdings Limited) was established as a wholly owned Government parastatal and the leading provider of insurance and financial services in Uganda. In 2014, it was restructured and re-branded into an insurance group with a holding company and two virile wholly owned insurance subsidiaries, NIC General Insurance Company Limited and NIC Life Assurance Company Limited.
Mr Patrick Adengo, Managing Director Stalworth Consulting Group a professional management and strategy consulting firm focused on digital strategy, technology advisory and inclusive financial services. He has supported clients in the public , social and private sector, among others, helping them to turn emerging technology ideas, processes and systems into reality. Formally worked at Airtel, UTL, Ericson and Huawei.
This mix of panelists who have worked with End-users been in the real environment with customers on a day-to day basis told good customer journey mapping stories. They helped to paint a very good picture on designing and developing products for end-users, customer segmentation, building good customer relationships, customer experience, feedback that drives continues improvement and iteration of a product or services.
Through an interactive session and a speed dating exercise, attendees got an expert opinion on current business practices and got to know what works out there in the industry.
The Fireplace is providing an incredible platform for attendees as remarked by Mr Onyait Jean the founder and CEO of Akello banker “ It a good space to learn from Managers and business leaders who have experience in running small, medium and large enterprises on key business principles and we also get to meet with other entrepreneurs and share ideas”.
