RAN in partnership with Women Passion Program (WOPA) run a 3 months National Technovation challenge where young women from High schools and Universities participated in a Mobile Application Development challenge for community development. The competition attracted girls from all regions including schools and universities from the East, West, and Northern parts of Uganda. To conclude the challenge, we have organized this 2 day Technovation Capacity Building and Awards Event where the participants will be exposed to more interesting things that women can do in technology.
The Technovation Challenge is a technology entrepreneurship program and competition for young women. This program teaches young women to build mobile applications to solve community challenges. Professional women mentor teams of 3 to 5 girls and together they go through the online curriculum over a period of three months. The program, which has no direct costs to the participants, equips the girls with technical and entrepreneurial skills, with a goal of creating a mobile phone application that can be launched in the market.
This year’s Theme; “Local solutions for Community Development” is specifically crafted to involve and appreciate the multi – disciplinarity of the various participants in regards to responding to communities’ most pressing challenges. We recognize that our communities’ challenges cannot be solved by technology alone and hence collaborate with scholars and innovators from other fields and disciplines of specialization.
We appreciate the effort of all the students during the Technovation period and welook forward to building stronger networks for innovating with and for the girl child.
